At Our Lady of the Angels RC Primary School we believe that regular school attendance is key to your child’s success, both academically and socially. As a parent or carer, you are legally responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day.
Missing school can seriously affect your child’s learning, friendships, and future opportunities. Torfaen Council’s #NotInMissOut campaign celebrates the many benefits of being in school. Follow the hashtag on social media to see how local pupils and staff are getting involved.
Here is a video explaining why attendance matters - Why Attendance Matters 2025
If your child is absent from school it is important that you contact the school by 9.30am on the first day of non-attendance to give the reason for their absence. Send a message via the School Gateway app, email head.cwmbranrc@torfaen.gov.uk or call 01633 484673.
If your child is unwell you must inform the school of the nature of the illness and not just state “not very well”. If your child is attending an appointment please send in a copy of the appointment letter, where possible, for our records. Pupil absence/lateness is monitored closely by the Education Welfare Officer.
Unreported absences will be marked as 'unauthorised'.
Holidays during term time are strongly discouraged. If you wish to request leave for a holiday, you must submit a formal request to the Headteacher. If the request is declined and the holiday is taken regardless, it will be recorded as unauthorised and may lead to a Fixed Penalty Notice.
There are 190 school days each year, leaving 175 days for holidays and family time. You can check term dates here: https://www.ourladystorfaen.co.uk/term-dates/
If your child is struggling to attend school, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help and support you in ensuring your child gets the most out of their education.
