ALN

Additional Learning Needs

At times it may become apparent that some children are experiencing difficulties with their learning.  The concern will first be discussed between parents and teachers.  It is then the role of the ALNco to co-ordinate and advise on appropriate support. The first level of support is "Universal".  This involves whole school initiatives, in-house support through greater differentiation of task and/or adult support.  This may take place in class or children may be withdrawn for support.

The next level of support is "Target" and this could involve external agencies working with the child or specific, out of class 1 to 1 intervention from an LSA.  In some cases the school may seek advice from a range of agencies eg. speech and language, occupational therapy, educational psychological service. These then may well propose a course of action to be implemented within the school.

No referrals will be made without parental consent.

If the child at "Target" is still not making any progress after a given time, we will call parents in to discuss whether the child may require "Additional Learning Provision", this is  provision above and beyond that which is provided for other pupils. At this stage we may call parents into school to discuss whether the child requires an IDP ( see SNAP link).

As a school we devised an ALN pathway which breaks the process down further. This is available under ALN, ALN pathway.

If you have any questions or would like any further information the following website is very useful: www.snapcymru.org or feel free to email our ALNco.
