Summer Reading Challenge 2025

Children aged between 4 and 11 are invited to sign up for the nationwide challenge to read or listen to six or more library books throughout the summer. Books, e-books and audiobooks all count towards the challenge.

This year's theme is Story Garden, which aims to inspire children to explore the connection between storytelling and nature.

The children will get to collect fun rewards along the way, including stickers, bookmarks and bags.

A £100 gift voucher for Smyths Toy Store is also up for grabs, where one lucky winner be selected in a prize draw when the challenge comes to end.

And the best part? It won’t cost a penny to join.

It's free to join Torfaen Library and you can register for a library card by either visiting the Torfaen Council website or by popping into your local library.

Here is a short bilingual video explaining the process: https://youtube.com/shorts/fxIIyQO_PII?feature=share

There is also an exciting line up of free events at Torfaen Libraries throughout the summer holidays, from special events to lively Rhymetime sessions and Lego clubs.

The popular Story and Craft sessions will also return for children aged 5 to 10, hosted by all three libraries throughout August.

For more information about the Summer Reading Challenge and upcoming activities, visit your local library, follow Torfaen Libraries on Facebook or call 01633 647676.
