Y6 Residential Trip to Gilwern

Residential Trip to Gilwern Outdoor Adventure Centre

Year 6 pupils are being offered the opportunity to take part in a residential trip to Gilwern Outdoor Adventure Centre, run by MonLife Outdoor Adventure, from Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th June 2026.

This trip promises to be a memorable experience, packed with engaging outdoor activities including hill walking, canoeing, high ropes, orienteering and archery. These activities are designed not only to be fun but also to support key learning outcomes that contribute to pupils’ personal development.

These include:

  • Teamwork - working constructively with others
  • Problem Solving - planning, executing, and reviewing tasks
  • Motivation - being an enthusiastic and engaged group member
  • Communication - expressing ideas clearly and listening effectively
  • Leadership - guiding and supporting peers
  • Environmental Awareness - understanding the impact of our actions
  • Self-Confidence - building trust in oneself and others

Safeguarding and Safety are central to every aspect of the trip. MonLife Outdoor Adventure has over 50 years of experience and is licensed under the Activity Centres (Young Persons’ Safety Act) 1995. All activities are led by qualified instructors, and staff are trained in accordance with Monmouthshire County Council’s safeguarding policies and DBS requirements.

Upon arrival, pupils will receive a safety briefing and participate in a fire drill. All equipment is regularly inspected and maintained to the highest standards.

As it stands, the total cost of the trip is £220 per pupil, which includes accommodation, meals, activities, and transport. To secure a place, a non-refundable first payment of £20 is required by 7th November 2025.  This is payable on School Gateway.  The remaining balance can be paid either in full or in instalments of at least £20. The final payment is due by 30th April 2026.

Please see the kit list to help you prepare. Closer to the time, representatives from MonLife Outdoor Adventure will visit the school to speak with parents and answer any questions.

This trip will be a fantastic opportunity for pupils to grow in confidence, develop new skills and create lasting memories.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
