    Children whose families are on lower incomes and qualify for certain benefits can apply for a grant of:

    • £225 per learner
    • £300 for learners entering year 7 (to help with increased costs associated with starting secondary school

     

    The grant can help families with the purchase of:

    • School uniform including coats and shoes;
    • School sports kit including footwear;
    • Uniform for enrichment activities, including but not limited to, scouts; guides; cadets; martial arts; sports; performing arts or dance;
    • Equipment e.g. school bags and stationery;
    • Specialist equipment where new curriculum activities begin such as design and technology; and
    • Equipment for out of school hour trips such as outdoor learning e.g. waterproofs;
    • Laptops, IT equipment to support school work

     

    All compulsory school years from reception to year 11 are now eligible.

     

    All looked after children of compulsory school age qualify for the grant, whether they receive free school meals or not.

     

    The funding is also available to the following pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals:

    • Pupil’s with no recourse to public funds entering the above school years
    • Pupils in special schools, special needs resource bases and pupil referral units who are entering the above school years

     

    Pupils who receive Free School Meals due to transitional protection arrangements or under the Universal Free School Meal scheme do not qualify for this funding. Please refer to the Free School Meals section of our website for further information.

     

    Families are only entitled to claim once per child, per school year.

     

    The 2022 to 2023 scheme closes on 30 June 2023. The above amount includes an extra payment of £100 for this year only. 

     

    Payments will be issued based on automated eligibility checks and these checks will be carried out on a regular basis. The payment will normally be made in to your bank account, we may need to contact you to obtain this information.

     

    Although all children will receive FSM those on lower incomes and previously accessed FSM on the paid system should apply.

  • Music Tuition

    We have engaged the services of Gwent Music to provide music tuition in the school for the academic year 2023/24.

     

    The following arrangements will apply for all music tuition from September 2023.

    • Children will be taught individually or in small groups at the start of the new term.
    • Tuition is available on Brass, Percussion, Piano, Strings, Voice & Woodwind.
    • 34 sessions will be delivered over the school year. 
    • Group tuition is available at £65 per term, subject to availability.
    • Individual tuition is also available at a cost of
      • £130 per term for 20 minute weekly sessions or
      • £195 per term for 30 minute weekly sessions.
    • These charges apply for the academic year 2023/24.
    • It may be possible, subject to availability, for your child to borrow a Gwent Music instrument.
    • Low income families can apply for the Music Access Fund and can access group sessions free of charge or £65 per term for 20 minute weekly sessions or £130 per term for 30 minute weekly sessions.

     

    If you would like your child to start tuition, please enrol as follows: 

    1. Go to www.gwentmusic.co.uk
    2. Click on ‘click here for enrolment”
    3. If you already have a Gwent Music Parent Portal account then login as usual otherwise click “Create an Account” and follow the instructions. 
    4. At the top of the screen, in the menu bar, click on ‘Enrol’
    5. Select your activity by clicking on ‘Enrol’ under ‘School Direct Tuition’.
    6. Type in “Our Lady” into the search field and click ‘Find Schools’
    7. Click on “Our Lady of the Angels (Cwmbran) RC Primary School”
    8. Select the instrument your child would like to learn, then either click on your child’s name or complete your child’s details.
    9. Select your preferred start date and pricing option, then click proceed.
    10. Tick the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions and click submit.
    11. Your child will automatically be placed on the waiting list and you will receive an e-mail to confirm this.  
    12. Once your child has been offered a place, you will receive an e-mail with further instructions to accept the offer and make a payment.

    A member of the Eco Council from each class will monitor who walks to school each day.

     

    There is also a challenge each day for Years 2-6.

     

    Monday, 12th June - Year 2 - Happy Shoes Day!

    Wear shoes to school that make you happy

     

    Tuesday, 13th June - Year 3 - Love Your Trees!

    Hug the trees on your way to school. Count how many trees you have hugged

     

    Wednesday, 14th June - Year 4 - Bird Spotter!

    Remember the description/number of birds you saw on your way to school

     

    Thursday, 15th June - Year 5 - Bug Spotter!

    Remember the description/number of bugs you saw on your way to school

     

    Friday, 16th June - Year 6 - Roots to School

    Remember the number of steps you took to get to school

  • Pre-loved Uniform Sale

    Our “pre-loved” uniform sale will take place after school on the 23rd June 2023.  We are inviting donations of winter uniform that is clean and in good condition.


    If you have items that are suitable for re-sale we would ask that they are brought into school by the 16th June 2023.


    All proceeds of the sale will go to the PTFA fund for our children.


    Thank you for your generosity and we hope to see you all at the sale.

  • World Ocean Day

    Recently, world leaders committed to protect 30% of our lands, waters, and oceans by 2030, also known as “30×30.” Now that this goal has been set, together we can make sure that our national leaders follow through on their commitments.

     

    For World Ocean Day, you’re encouraged to take action by designing an ocean themed poster!

     

    Please design a poster explaining what ‘30x30’ is and include your top 3 reasons why you support ‘30x30’ and want to protect our ocean.

     

    The winner will be announced on World Ocean Day!

     

    Submission deadline: Please bring your poster in on Thursday 8th June.
